Goodbye...

An open letter to my cherished journal friends:

Hello, my friends:

The events of the last two days that have blown journal land to smithereens have just...I don't know. Spoiled the whole experience for me, I guess. I was never really a big mover and shaker in journal land, but even the few friends I have are now all over the place. I can't find you, and if I do, my damn new laptop with its "cookies" issues will not let me comment on your journals. I would like to continue to read, to keep up with all of you, but it's just becoming too frustrating. And it's no fun really, without the "give and take" of commenting.

Tonight, I'm going to take "Coming to Terms" private...with no readers. Then, I think I'm just going to sit on it for awhile. At some point, I'll either download my entries and delete the journal entirely, or re-open it after all the fuss has died down and/or some resolution has been reached with all the "AOL Betrayal" issues. Or I might start a journal somewhere else, but I doubt it. All good things come to an end, and maybe this one has. Rather rudely and abruptly, I'd say. I'm kind of upset right now, and it's been my experience that when I make decisions when I'm in this state, they rarely come to any good.

Lisa :-]

  3. I had to send you a letter from my work e-mail because AOL e-mail would not let me send.

    Imagine that.

  6. Hi Lisa, I will miss reading your rants.....and I mean that in a good way. I like to look at what we have gained rather than what we have loss. I know I have gained new friends and new insights.  We can be thankful for that. Let us still keep in touch with email.
PS I am surprised your hand waving is not of a different configuration HEHEHEHE!

  9. Lisa,
Your feelings mirror mine precisely. The whole experience has been ruined as a result of what has happened here for me as well.
However, I am feeling a little better today and trying to move forward.
I started an international/UK blog which doesn't have any banners attached. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they get there, too, but in the meanwhile I can at least blog without AOL making money on my creativity. I made my old journal private with NO readers. I'm also gonna check out Blogspot, but it was frankly the community here at aol that made blogging so much fun, and without that, it just won't feel the same. If you need the link to open an international journal on aol, just email me.
PS: I do hope you stay and be happy that some of the uh---hem----- others.... have left.

  11. Lisa,

Not a mover and shaker? I'd beg to differ. You write one of the best political blogs in J-land. I admire your opinions and I love the way you express them. You're a gifted writer and I am not happy about the prospect of not getting to hear you anymore. I certainly don't want to trivialize this, but I think we all have a pretty damn special thing going here, and I hate seeing it destroyed because of some stupid decision by someone none of us know!

I'm going to keep on blogging here in J-land. Honestly, the ads don't bother me much. And once you scroll down just a tiny bit, they're gone. Even better, Mort showed me how to get them blocked. You just fix your "Blocking Pop-UPs" thingy at the bottom of the window and poof: no more ads.

When the dust settles and you figure out what you're going to do, please drop me a line and let me know how to find your new journal, if you decide to create a new one.

  12. Lisa,

One more thing. In your "about me" section you describe yourself as "sadly agnostic." That has always struck me as a curious expression. Not that you "take requests" but if you ever get the chance, I'd love to hear what exactly you mean by that. I can understand being agnostic, but why sadly?

Sorry to pry, but all my favorite journal people are leaving and I realize there are things that I wish I had asked eons ago.

  13. Who knows if this will pass, but I know one thing, it's never, ever going to be the same in J-land.  I will keep my journal here but not post in it if it has ad banners.  I will move to blogspot for now, but I will never, ever lose touch with my journal friends.  Lisa, please don't give up your political journal.  Move over to somewhere else and we'll follow.  Hugs, Lisa

  14. I'm pretty annoyed at this whole banner issue as well.  I wrote my little letter of unhappiness and indignation about this whole mess...but you know, when you look at the big picture, is this really worth all the time, energy and passion that everyone's spent recently?  In my heart of hearts, I don't think so.  I think most folks are ticked off because it came without any warning and no one likes a fast one put over on them.  Also, most of us are very conscious and protective of the "look" of our journals.  Please think this one through a bit more before you decide to bring your wonderful, outstanding journal to an end.  I, for one, would mourn its demise deeply.
