Sneaking a "Quiet" Fix

Here it is, 9:00 am on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  I am sitting here on the john, with the computer in my lap, typing away... (a little trick I stole from the husband, after dissing him mercilessly the first time I caught him at it.)  But right now, this is about the only place in the house where I can be assured of privacy.  And I couldn't even be sure of THAT if I hadn't locked the door...!

Much as I look forward to this opportunity to have the whole famly together under my roof, my normal everyday life does NOT prepare me for the constant hubbbub of having a house full of people.  I guess you could say I'm becoming quite the old fart.  I spend a lot of time on my own, and though it can be a somewhat lonely existence, I am on the whole quite comfortable by myself.  So much so that when I DON'T get my quota of "alone time," I get a little rattled.  To put it midly.

Well,  my fifteen-minute "toilet vacation" from the melee is just about over.  Now, I have to decide whether I want to rejoin the human race, pull on my bathing suit and go out and sit in the hot tub with the group, or stay inside to get caught up with the endless straightening, dishwashing, laundry, and zookeeper duties.  Hmm...where did I put my suit....?

  1. I can't tell you how many times a locked bathroom door has been my only private escape.  As for the swimming suit, excellent choice.

  2. I totally understand that need for alone time.  The suit, in front of company....no, not me!  LOL!  Enjoy!  Lisa

  3. Thank the Lord for door locks and the suit is a good choice. Have the kittens charmed the socks off every one or just decided to hide under the bed? :-)

  4. HOpefully you are getting your rations of help from the company with all the chores that keep the place running.  My family is always quick to jump in with dishes, laundry and pickup so I can enjoy too!!  Now, don't shrivel up too bad in that hot tub now!:-)  Kristi

  6. I'm the same as you. I need my alone time. When I had roommates they teased me that my bedroom was my cave. When I was growing up, I rarely had my own room (go figure being the only girl) so I would hide out in the bathroom too. I can't help laughing at the thought of you huddled on the toilet typing away. Too fricken funny! :-) ---Robbie

  7. YOU SOUND A LOT LIKE ME, I'VE BEEN TOLD BY THE "EXPERTS" THAT I AM VERY COMFORTABLE WITH MYSELF AND BEING ALONE, WHICH I AM MOST OF THE TIME.  AND LIKE YOU, IF I DONT GET THE ALONE TIME FOR WHATEVER REASON, I BECOME FRAZZELED (SP?) AND END UP WITH PANIC ATTACKS.   AS FOR THE BATHROOM THING, HAHAH......I THINK A LOT OF US DO THAT, ALTHOUGH WHEN I WAS MARRIED I USED THE WALK-IN CLOSET, NO ONE COULD FIND ME...LOL.............STORMIE

  8. That was the hardest (is the hardest) part of being with someone ALL THE DAMN TIME is the loss of my "alone time".  I sneak off to the attic.....but they follow me up there too!  Happy Thanksgiving and it is almost over!

  9. Amazing, isn't it, how much scut work is involved in maintaing a functioning household full of people?  At least there's no election fallout in the bathroom.

  11. I wish I could think of what they called it when George took the book into the library on Seinfeld.  There was a secret code that allowed everyone to know that the book had been in the bathroom. LOL!  I wonder if that is now on your laptop!

Ah, alone time,  I am waiting for Daddy O to take the kiddies to the store so I can start on a Middlemarch paper.

  12. I'm not horrified by the thought of surfing the internet whist engaged in using the facilities. My wife, on the other hand, talks on the phone while using the toilet. It doesn't seem to embarrass her at all when the person she's talking to asks, "What's that noise?"

  13. I know how you feel about alone time. While I love my family and Dre's too when they are all in one spot I become more and more ready for them to go so I can be alone!!!!
