Funny how no one has been posting much. AOL tells us they’re going to be closing their doors in 30 days, and we all just…abandon ship. Actually, if everyone else is spending the hours and hours it is taking ME to painstakingly transfer my entries and comments to blogger, I know exactly why everyone has been so incommunicado.
I have spent, oh, about ten hours so far on the "copy, paste, redate, publish" thing… It reminds me of the hellish months I spent trying to re-invent myself as a data entry clerk. Very much why I ran screaming back to the foodservice business. B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!!
And, yet, the entire time I’m doing this, I feel this sense of doom hanging over my head. As if there is no way I’m going to get this all finished before the deadline. Auugh!!!
I have gotten all the way through March of 2004. Which means I have only 4 ½ more years to go.
And I haven’t noticed any helpful e-mails from AO-Hell telling us they’ve figured out how to move our journals to…somewhere else. I’m thinking it will be a cold day in hell when that happens. And I’m also thinking there is no way I would entrust THEM with this precious compilation of the last five years of my life. Sure as s**t they would lose it all into cyberspace, never to be seen again. There is no way I would take that risk.
So, soldier on, everyone. We shall meet again on "the other side!" :-]

ReplyDeleteI thought "they" were going to migrate the blogs for you to blogger?

I think we have all been so busy transferring our blogs we have little time for aoHell anymore ~ what a sad time this is ~ Ally x
ReplyDeleteI have been transferring my entries to Word and I have gotten all the way up to Oct 2005!! I have left the comments behind. It would be too much to try and copy and paste everything. I can not believe the amount of words I spewed forth. It's great revisiting those entries though.
ReplyDeleteI haven't started yet and I know I have to. If I could just back the whole damn thing up onto my hard drive, that would be good enough for me. I guess I'm starry eyed...hoping a simple solution will crop up if I wait long enough. Sheesh...I'm old enough to know better than that.
ReplyDeleteI've been backing up the entries to word and haven't made up my mind what I'll do with them. Print them off for my own satisfaction or reenter them into blogger. good luck.

Well, I still have a FIFTH ANNIVERSARY entry to do on the 20th of the month and then, when I finish telling the entire free world why I love being on AOL - J for the last five years, I'll say goodbye.
ReplyDeleteI'm hopeful that my saving the journal to the hard drive will do the trick for me ... I can sort and sift and eventually move things to blogger -- at least the posts I want to.
It's daunting to think it will be done by October 31st. I kind of think that AOL has forgotten that their jobs are to play with computers all day ... we, on the other hand, have other jobs and have to do the computer stuff part time. GAAAAAAAAA
