Here's a Little Quiz

"Tonight, every one of you knows deep in your heart that we are too divided. It is time to heal America.

And so we must say to every American: Look beyond the stereotypes that blind us. We need each other. All of us, we need each other. We don't have a person to waste. And yet for too long politicians have told most of us that are doing all right, that what's really wrong with America is the rest of us. Them.

...We've gotten to where we've nearly them'd ourselves to death. Them and them and them.

But this is America. There is no them; there is only us. One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

A challenge:  Who said this, and when?

  1. I admit it: I looked it up.  But I won't give it away!  Except to say that we don't seem to have made much progress.

  4.     Your words are so true and dear to my heart tonight. Thank you for knowing I am not alone. I was called a commie today & my heart was broken. I love America and want her back.  Now Christians are fighting Christians over politics
forgetting what we are suppose to be. Thank you for bringing hope after a horrible day.

  6. Clinton, and of course the only president in the last how ever many years that really understood the conflict between Israel and Palestine.  I refuse to call it the "Middle East" because we have so arrogantly named it that.  It is not technically correct, nor do the very population residing there recogonizes it as so.

  7. I'm thinking this quote is old enough to surprise a few people, but not older than I am.  The language feels too modern  Talking about healing America...needing each other...not wasting...that has a sixties or seventies feel, and that theme would probably put it into a Democrat's mouth, so my guess would be Robert Kennedy, McGovern or Carter.  My next guess would be Gerald Ford.  There was a lot of healing talk when he took office.

  8. I also looked it up and learned something new today.  I'll wait for whoever knows this from their education to give the answer.  What's really interesting is the addition of two words that weren't part of the original statement and the fact that we're still struggling with this phrase.  Oceanmrc is quite right.  We haven't come very far.
