Trees

Thank you all for your sympathy about the trees.  Many of you suggested that I just plant my own row of trees.  Believe me, I would have been out yesterday doing exactly that, if I could.  Here is a crude drawing of how the three properties, ours and our two "backyard" neighbors', line up to one another:

You can see, only ONE of that entire row of trees actually bordered OUR property.  The rest of them ran the length of the fence between the other two neighbors.  My hot tub is about 36" away from the fence...there's nowhere to plant any trees, unless we move the hot tub to some other place in the yard.  AND I only have about 4 or 5 feet between the edge of my deck and the back fence.  Hardly enough room to plant anything that would grow tall enough to replace those lovely trees.  So, basically, there's not a whole lot I can do to fix the situation without absolutely ripping apart my whole back yard and starting all over again.  I would do it, too, if I had the money.  If I won the lottery tonight, the first thing I'd be doing tomorrow morning is lining up a landscape architect.

I STILL hate my neighbors...

  1. I have a feeling you're going to hate the neighbors for awhile.  I know the pain and resentment I would feel if this happened to me.  I could never take down a tree that was not diseased or putting my home in immenent danger.  I wish there was something to say that might actually make a difference Lisa.  I understand you are experiencing a very traumatic loss....I'm just SO sorry.

  2. You should go talk to a landscaper anyway.  Our next door neighbor put in a bunch of trees in less space than you have.  I think he did have to cut a couple down pretty quickly -- he didn;t realize how much space they would actually take -- but he eneded up with a nice border to the fence between our yards.

I am totally envious of the hot tub.  You probably want to move it away from those neighbors anyway.  <G>

  3. LOL at the drawing. You are a detailed woman. I love it. But, you know, it explains it all now quite clearly. He wanted an unobstructed view of the hot tub shenanigans. ;-) ---Robbie

  4. Hot tub!! :-P

Well, again, so sorry about the trees.  Hopefully you'll find out they had a really good reason?

  5. It won't replace the trees, but is there a fence between your house and the other neighbor's yard where you could plant something viney or bushy?  It won't be the same, but it will soften the yard.

  6. Lisa-
I love trees and I am sitting here writing this with tears running down my face. What in the world is wrong with people?? One can only hope that your "neighbors" (jerk heads) will replace those trees with some kind of new border. What they should have done was just left them alone! We had poplar trees in Reno and they are here in Las Vegas too, they are beaufiful. My Mother and I both have a true love for birds and trees. Thats the only things that keeps me sane is the trees here in this desert town.

It's a very sad thing thats happened and I'm truly sorry Lisa.

  7. There are trees that are minature. You can go to a local nursery and they can tell you which ones but they are expensive.

  8. Oh...I'm so sorry.  Do we know WHY the neighbors did this?

  10. Hi, I'm a long time blogger, but sorta new to the AOL community.  After reading your site I just had to tell you how much I enjoy it.  Your passion for your values is delightful to read about.  Great posts and pictures.  I will certainly visit again.

  11. Bougainvillea!  They're gorgeous, don't require a lot of space, will fill out a trellis/fence beautifully and will block your view of your nasty neighbors, while at the same time blocking their view of your lovely hot tub ~ (Robbie may have a point there... ;)
