Here's My Heart

I would like to welcome anyone who has visited "Coming To Terms…" on Alphawoman1’s recommendation. Mary and I have been keeping up with each others’ journals almost since they dug up the foundation thereof…I think Mary first commented here on October 9, 2003. My journal was a little less than one month old.

I have had a, shall we say, tenuous? relationship with the AOL editors almost since I began my journal. I tend to be…not too nice to them. In return, they tend to ignore me. Sort of a "don’t ask, don’t tell" relationship. I suppose it could be worse. They haven’t "tos’d" me or accidentally deleted my journal. But I think they tagged me as, "Don’t mess with that one…she bites!" Which has been fine with me. So, the "Guest Editor" program was the ONLY way I was ever going to be an editor's pick. And I am honored and humbled to have made it to the list of a guest editor of the stature and intelligence of Aphawoman1. Thank you, Mary, from the bottom of my heart.

Once I realized that people who had perhaps never stopped by before might be reading, I really wished I could reprint all those entries I wrote in the first few months, that nobody (nobody but Mary, anyway) ever read. That would be pretty tedious, though, wouldn’t it? However, on my sweep through j-land this weekend, I have discovered that Scalzi’s assignment for this week has been to dig up your favorite entry in your own journal, and post a link to it. Okay….I can do that. Let me first say that I am NOT one for never going back and reading my own writing. I often spend an evening delving into my archives and perusing my old entries…trying to see if they still have any meaning, if they still resonate. If they look stupid now that I am, presumably, past the place I was in when I wrote them. I’ve found that I am inordinately proud of most of what I have written in my AOL journal. But here, I think, is probably one of, if not THE best, post I have made. Enjoy.

  2. I think I've been with you since CLOSE to the start....and your recognition is long overdue.  You write with so much passion and intelligence...you always make me think.  Congratulations.

The linked entry is so powerful.  I cannot imagine being in the position where I have to make that type of decision.  I'm sure the scars of the experience are forever tender.

  3. Lisa-
I have been saying it since we met on AOL and started writing and posting on each others journals: you deserve this 100%! You taken on very controversial subjects, politcal issues and so many other very important issues in our country. You write about them in "your" style which makes them such a great read. Your writing style is stormy, extremely intelligent, humurous and I have thuroughly enjoyed it since the first day I layed eyes on it. I personally will continue to be a faithful reader for I hope years to come. Your a great writer Lisa. And I haven't even got started on your amazing talented poetry. Plus that really beautiful thing you do with your pictures; how you collage them.

I am pleased that you got this recognition and CONGRADS!

    Take care buddy,
    Gayla

  4. I'm a little late in finding this stuff out because I've had internet problems this weekend........but.... Congratulations!!!!! You definitely deserve it! I think being a peer pick is so much more special and noteworthy than being a random, themed, AOL-J editor's pick. Now, I'm off to read your favorite entry. I'll be back later to catch up here, that is if I'm able to sign on again. (errrgggg). :-) ---Robbie

  5. Congratulations, Lisa.  I knew somehow, some day your incredible journal would be showcased in the "Editor's Pick" and the mere fact that you were selected by such a special Guest Editor is even more complimentary.  I'm so pleased with myself that I discovered your journal very soon after I discovered the world of AOL journals.  By the way, I'm one of those people who do go back to the first entry and read through to the present when I find a journal of great interest.

  7. That the AOL editors would overlook YOU, is one of the many reasons why I have issues with AOL.  Congratulations.  It's about time!

  9. Congratulations Lisa!  It is long over due.  Your link took me to one of the most powerful entries that I have ever read.  Your passion and grief were evident, but your moral stand was there too.  You are such a passionate, informed writer.  I don't often comment, but I always read.  I'm so glad that you have finally been highlighted.  Pennie

Anyway, congrats and thanks be to Mary!  You've deserved the recognition for as long as I can remember, which seems like quite a long time indeed.  :)
